| ompany, two Japanese companies and us. We will build two LNG tankers in Japan at the end of 2005 and in the spring of 2006, liquidize the natural gas from the Barents Sea (Snowbit mining area ) in northern Norway, on land (Hammerfest), and transport about 4 million tons of LNG a year to electric and gas companies in Spain and France, in addition to those in the US.
The demand for LNG as a power generation resource, which is better for the environment than coal or oil, is increasing in Japan, Europe, and the United States. Although Japanese companies mainly engage in the import of LNG to Japan, this venture will be the first time for Japanese firms to transport this resource between Europe and the United States. |
