We take various measures in the Real Estate Business to help preserve the environment. Below, we describe two of our key activities: efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and efforts to recycle waste material.
1. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions
We believe that greenhouse gas emissions produced by buildings can be reduced more effectively if steps are taken both in the development phase and during building operation and maintenance.
At our six main rental buildings, we measure daytime and nighttime power consumption separately, providing insight into power consumption patterns that enables us to implement highly detailed plans for reducing carbon emissions.
Efforts to achieve top-class environmental performance at the Shiodome Shiba-Rikyu Building began at the planning stage with the decision to incorporate the most advanced technology, facilities, and equipment. Various features ensure the building's environmental and energy efficiency. For example, insulation materials in the building's exterior boost environmental heating and cooling efficiency. And a thermal storage tank installed on the roof stores ice produced with nighttime power, resulting in lower carbon emissions, that is then used in air cooling systems during the daytime.
2. Recycling waste materials
Every year, we prepare and submit a Reuse Plan for Large Commercial Buildings for all of our main rental properties in accord with Tokyo's regulations on the disposal and reuse of waste materials.
We installed a weighing system at the Shiodome Shiba-Rikyu Building to accurately measure and record the weight of waste generated. This enables us to ascertain trends in waste levels and provides key insights, helping us to reduce waste and cut waste disposal costs.
