The Company's CSR Activities

Tomoyuki Sekine, President
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). More and more, companies are expected to act with consideration for all stakeholders as responsible members of society instead of merely pursuing smooth relationships with their business partners. The Company has also established the management Concepts, together with the Action Charter as a measure for realizing the Concepts, and is promoting corporate activities with the aim of enhancing corporate value while contributing widely to society. In terms of organization, the Safety Committee was established in 2002, followed by a re-examination of the group risk management structure from the perspective of corporate governance. In 2005, the Compliance Committee, Safety and Environmental Committee, and Quality and Systems Committee were established by constructively reorganizing the Safety Committee. The Company will continue to address social requirements in an accurate manner and make efforts to fulfill its social responsibilities based on safety.
Safety
The Iino Kaiun Group's management principles state first and foremost that ensuring safety is the basis of our operations. This reflects our belief that continual efforts to ensure safety lead directly to achieving our business goals and increasing enterprise value. The shipping industry has battled accidents throughout its history, and once a major accident occurs, its impact is immeasurable. Our mission is to safely transport natural resources, energy, and other essential cargo without accident. In the real estate industry, we have an important responsibility to prevent breakdowns and defects in smart office buildings and to provide safe and comfortable spaces.
The Environment
The largest environmental impact of the shipping industry comes from the consumption of fossil fuels and the resulting emissions of carbon dioxide, sulfur oxides, and nitrous oxides. Although ocean shipping surpasses other means of transport in terms of energy efficiency, the Iino Kaiun Group realizes the magnitude of shipping's environmental footprint, and we have made many innovations to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions of air pollutants. In the real estate business, we are working to reduce carbon dioxide emissions attributable to the use of lighting, air conditioners, and IT equipment in office buildings. In addition to introducing energy-saving equipment and working to encourage more efficient usage, we are aiming to reduce the environmental footprints of newly-built office buildings by installing the latest energy-saving systems and adding greenery. It is our responsibility to find solutions that reduce the environmental footprint of our office buildings without sacrificing their functionality.
