Adoption of the AI-powered Crew Matrix Planning (CMP) Program

IINO Kaiun Kaisha, Ltd. (IINO) has adopted an AI-based Crew Matrix Planning (CMP), program developed in collaboration with Greywing Pte Ltd., a Singapore-based technology startup.

As part of its DX promotion, IINO started working on automating the crew assignment planning process in late 2022. Greywing was selected as a partner following a global selection process with the help of Plug and Play, the world's largest accelerator based in Silicon Valley, USA, with which we entered partnership last year to strengthen our collaboration with startups. By combining IINO's expertise in crew change planning with Greywing's expertise in state-of-the-art software programming, the AI crew change planning program was completed in approximately 9 months from conception.

In its mid-term management plan, "The Adventure to Our Sustainable Future," the IINO Group has identified "Accelerating DX Promotion" as one of the business foundation strategies to implement its key strategies for creating economic and social value. By automating the routine work of planning crew change, we will reduce the workload of maritime engineers in the ship management sector and reallocate their expertise to projects with higher economic added value and solutions to social issues such as decarbonization. Thereby, we will strengthen our efforts to realize the economic and social values outlined in the mid-term management plan.

IINO and Greywing will continue to improve this program so that the new technology developed in this project will contribute to more advanced and efficient operations in the shipping industry.
